Preparing for Your First Wax

Preparing for Your First Brazilian Wax:

  • Shower first. If this is not possible, no worries! There are complementary intimate wipes in our restroom for freshening up at the salon.

  • Make sure your hair is long enough. Hair must be AT LEAST ¼ inch or the length of a grain of rice. This is usually achieved within 2-3 weeks after your last shave. Honestly, the longer…the better!

  • Exfoliate AND moisturize the evening before. (note: DO THIS BEFORE ANY BODY WAX). Exfoliating and moisturizing the night before your wax helps loosen and remove any dead skin around your hair follicles while keeping your hair soft and ready for easier hair removal during your appointment. Well moisturized skin is also less prone to tearing and lifting during a wax. A warm shower or bath right before your service can be beneficial as well.

  • Pain reliever can be used. Use a pain reliever of your choice 30-60 minutes before your appointment. In my honest opinion, this does little to nothing to help with pain, but others say it does take off the edge. Please note: ibuprofen and aspirin are blood thinners, which should NOT be taken prior to a wax. Avoid these if possible.

  • Be honest. Before your first wax appointment, you are required to complete intake and consent forms. These forms explain who should not wax and asks important questions regarding your health. Being dishonest on these forms can lead to skin lifting and/or tearing.

  • Remember to breathe! Breathe in as the wax goes on and out with the pull.

  • Wear comfortable clothing. Keep your clothing loose fit and cotton if possible.

  • Hold your skin taut. During your wax, holding your stomach (no matter your size) just above your bikini line and pulling it up will help keep your skin as tight as possible. This not only helps diminish pain, but helps your wax specialist get every hair!

  • Frequent Waxes = Easier & Quicker Waxes. If you keep up with your waxes, they get easier (less painful) and quicker (your hair thins out, so less to wax!).

  • Don’t be shy! I do this all day every day, so seeing you does not phase me! Make sure you are opening up as much as you can in every position, so I can reach every hair!

  • FOLLOW AFTERCARE. Please, please, please...do NOT skip waxing aftercare. This is extremely important even on skin that is healthy and not prone to ingrown hairs. Waxing aftercare can be found on this website under the Aftercare tab.
